BRISBANE – A magnificent attacking performance from Queensland ended NSW’s hopes of a first State of Origin whitewash in 14 years.

The Blues, who wrapped up the series with a 6-4 win in game two in Sydney last month, harboured genuine hopes of winning two games in Brisbane for the first time since 1996.

But it never really looked like happening from the opening whistle as Mal Meninga’s mighty side demonstrated their ruthless streak by running in five tries to clinch a 32-8 win.

Like they have for the whole series NSW defended magnificently for 37 minutes of the first half before skipper Cameron Smith broke a Maroons’ try-scoring drought stretching back to the 56th minute of game one.

The four pointer was created by a magnificent run and kick by Daly Cherry-Evans that split the defensive line and Smith was on hand to touch down.

From that moment the hosts never looked back with second half tries from Billy Slater, Darius Boyd, Aidan Guerra and Cooper Cronk – back from a broken arm sustained in game one.

The Blues failed to show any real intent in attack as they spent most of the game trying to repel wave after wave of attack from Meninga’s side.

Corey Parker, named man of the match, was also back from injury, and his offloading in attack was an integral reason why his side dominated.

Blues halves Josh Reynolds and Trent Hodkinson never really had any influence on the game.

Five-eighth Reynolds is potentially facing a lengthy ban following his shoulder charge to Will Chambers.

A Josh Dugan try on 64 minutes gave Daley’s side some hope to help them back to 8-14, but with Smith leading from the front, Queensland closed the game out to add some pride from a disappointing series.
