Manly’s Williams charged by police: report

Manly winger David Williams has reportedly been charged with offensive behaviour and affray over an incident outside a Kings Cross nightclub last month.

News Ltd reports the charges relate to an incident in the early hours of May 27, in which a 29-year-old Rockdale man alleged he was assaulted outside a club on Kellett Street, in the heart of the late-night precinct.

The alleged incident occurred after the man was asked to leave the club following an altercation with two other patrons.

News Ltd says that Williams was with Sea Eagles assistant coach Andrew Johns and teammate Justin Horo on the night in question, but there is no suggestion Johns or Horo have done anything wrong.

Former Kangaroo Williams has been reportedly issued with a court attendance notice and will face court on August 13.

The Rockdale man has also been charged.

The alleged incident is the latest in a string of off-field indiscretions plaguing rugby league.

North Queensland and NSW prop James Tamou was on Tuesday fined $1900, and disqualified from driving for 15 months, after pleading guilty in a Townsville court to drink-driving and driving without a licence.

Canberra centre Blake Ferguson is due to front Waverley Local Court on July 16 after being charged with indecently assaulting a woman at a Sydney nightclub.
