Manly’s Stewart struggling with hamstring

Manly NRL star Brett Stewart will spend more time on the sidelines as he struggles with a troublesome hamstring injury.

Sea Eagles coach Trent Barrett on Friday confirmed the fullback would miss Monday night’s clash with the Wests Tigers and could be another several weeks off returning.

After going down in the side’s final trial against Queensland Cup side Ipswich three weeks ago, the 31-year-old veteran is still battling to get back on the park.

Barrett said the former NSW and Australian custodian was frustrated by the setback and could not put a date on his return.

“He still won’t be right, he ran again yesterday and he’s as frustrated as anyone,” Barrett said.

“He is important to the side. I thought Tom Trbojevic did a terrific job last week. He tried really hard in difficult circumstances and he was coming off limited preparation as well.

“He’ll play fullback and we’re not expecting Snake back for a couple of weeks.”
