Manly and Warriors to face off in Perth

Perth will get another taste of NRL action later this year when Manly and the Warriors face off in a grand final re-match on July 28. The round 21 match was initially scheduled to be played at Brookvale Oval, but the Sea Eagles have been given a financial incentive to shift the game to Perth. “While we’re excited about this unique opportunity for the club, clearly our preference is still to play as many home games at Brookvale Oval as financially possible,” Manly chief operating officer David Perry said. The match will be the second game played in Western Australia this season after the Brisbane Broncos defeated South Sydney 20-12 at nib Stadium in March. That encounter attracted 15,599 fans, but the Sea Eagles and Warriors have the potential to record an even bigger attendance at the larger Patersons Stadium, which has a 43,000 capacity. The fixture will also give the NRL’s hierarchy another good gauge of the level of support for the game in Western Australia, which is vying for its own team when the competition expands. Manly won last year’s NRL title with a 24-10 triumph over the Warriors in the grand final.
