Five-eighth John Sutton is confident South Sydney coach Michael Maguire’s knowledge of Melbourne’s structures could give the Rabbitohs the edge they require to topple the Storm in their NRL finals clash at AAMI Park on Saturday.
First-year NRL coach Maguire served a long apprenticeship which included working as Craig Bellamy’s assistant at the Storm from 2004 to 2009.
Maguire’s knowledge of the Storm didn’t help the Rabbitohs earlier this year when they were beaten 24-10 by Melbourne, leaving Souths winless after nine trips to Victoria.
But Souths are a different proposition now since Greg Inglis made the switch from the centres to fullback and Sutton has backed his coach to find any flaws in the Storm.
“I think he knows them pretty well. He knows their structures defensively and in attack and hopefully he can teach us some stuff to go down there and exploit them,” he said on Wednesday.
“I think he’ll just have some video for us and show us where to attack and what’s their strong points and stuff like that.”
Saturday will be Souths’ first finals appearance since 2007.
