Former Queensland State of Origin forward Jacob Lillyman has signed a new one-year deal with the Warriors, keeping him at the Auckland-based club until the end of the 2014 NRL season.

The 28-year-old, who converted from the second row to prop since joining the Warriors in 2009, will play his 71st game for the club when they face Brisbane on Friday night and was pleased to have his immediate future settled.

“I couldn’t be happier knowing I have my future sorted out here until the end of 2014,” said Lillyman.

The six-cap Queensland representative says he has never regretted making the move to the Warriors after playing 62 matches for the North Queensland Cowboys.

“It has been the best move of my career. I owe so many people here for the faith they’ve shown in me and for helping to make me a better player.

“Moving into the front row has been great for me. It’s helped my career and it’s a role I really enjoy,” said the part-time bachelor of health sciences student.

Lillyman’s new deal comes weeks after fellow front-rower Ben Matulino committed himself to the club until the end of the 2015 season.

Warriors coach Brian McClennan was happy the prop, nicknamed “Bull”, extended his stay at the club.

“It’s brilliant having Jake on our books until the end of 2014. Bull gives us so much quality in the way we start our sets,” McClennan said.

“You always ask for consistency and Jake gives it to us in bucketloads.”
