Newcastle Knights chairman Paul Harragon has assured fans the NRL club’s future is sound despite a decision by Nathan Tinkler’s Hunter Sports Group to hand back its A-League licence for the Newcastle Jets. HSG argue it has irreconcilable differences with Football Federation Australia which led to the decision, claiming to have invested $12 million since taking control 18 months ago. But despite the Knights being owned and managed in the same manner by HSG, Harragon insists there is no cause for concern for the rugby league club. “I want to stress that this decision has no impact on the Newcastle Knights with our future absolutely assured,” Harragon said in a statement to the club’s members on Tuesday. “The Newcastle Knights will continue to be owned and managed by the Hunter Sports Group. “I wish to remind members and supporters that the Newcastle Knights also have a $20 million bank guarantee in place with the Hunter Sports Group that assures the Newcastle Knights future. “The Newcastle Knights will continue to operate as normal and the management and team are fully focused on preparing for this weekend’s match. “We thank you for your continued support.”
