Key spots at stake in Broncos NRL trial

Ben Hannant and Josh McGuire will go head to head in Brisbane’s front row against Gold Coast in Saturday night’s trial for the vacant prop spot alongside Petero Civoniceva for the NRL season-opening clash with Parramatta.

Civoniceva, back home with the Broncos after four seasons with Penrith, will make his comeback in Brisbane colours in next week’s final hitout against Melbourne in Hobart.

His starting partner will be determined by the trial form of Hannant who has played for Queensland and Australia and fiery young prop McGuire who raised eyebrows with his strong late-season form last year to force his way into the Kangaroo train-on squad.

Ben Hunt will start at five-eighth, as he resumes his battle with Corey Norman to fill Darren Lockyer’s No.6 jumper for the Eels round-one match at Parramatta Stadium early next month.

Hunt and Norman will share time at five-eighth with Peter Wallace playing his first trial at Skilled Park against the Titans.

Brisbane starting side:

Josh Hoffman, Dane Gagai, Aaron Whitchurch, Gerard Beale, Dale Copley, Ben Hunt, Peter Wallace, Ben Hannant, Andrew McCullough, Josh McGuire, Ben Te’o, Alex Glenn, Corey Parker.
