The brute force of Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and the flair of Michael Jennings has combined to hand the Sydney Roosters a dramatic 38-28 win over Canterbury at Allianz Stadium.

In one of the games of the NRL season, the Roosters raced out to a 22-0 lead after just 25 minutes and the game looked all but over before the Bulldogs mounted a spirited fightback to lead 28-22 with 23 minutes left.

A Blake Ferguson try brought the Roosters to within two points in the 69th minute, before Michael Jennings aptly flew like Superman in the superhero round to ground a Mitchell Pearce kick to put the home side ahead 30-28.

It was an effort reminiscent of Jennings’ match sealing four-pointer in the 2013 grand final and came on the back of some inspired charges from Waerea-Hargreaves after the Dogs snatched the lead.

The win on Friday is the Roosters’ seventh a row and keeps them on track for a top four finish.

It was soured slightly by a wrist injury to prop Sam Moa, who is expected to miss two weeks.

The Roosters blitzed the visitors early with tries through Daniel Tupou in the fourth and 14th minutes, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck in the 11th minute and Jennings in the 24th minute as the Tricolours, sporting their Captain America jerseys, raced out to a big lead.

But ill-discipline from the Roosters and some impressive fight from the visitors worked the Dogs back into the contest.

Shaun Lane struck first for Canterbury in the 29th minute before Josh Morris crashed his way over four minutes through some soft defence out wide, then Corey Thompson scored just before halftime for a score of 22-16.

Trent Hodkinson dummied his way through over in the 51st minute and when Thompson scored his second six minutes later the Dogs had surged to the lead.

But the Roosters weren’t done with and finally stemmed the flow of 28 unanswered points with a try to Blake Ferguson is the 69th minute, before James Maloney’s conversion hit the post.

But that was immaterial when Jennings crossed before Jackson Hastings added one more for the home side in the final minute to seal a memorable win.

Moa was replaced in the 34th minute due to a dislocated wrist and taken to hospital for an operation.

Roosters interchange prop Kane Evans was put on report for a massive hit deemed a shoulder charge on Sam Kasiano in the 33rd minute that sat the Kiwi international down on the Allianz Stadium turf.
