A teenage rugby league player has been suspended for 25 years and two teammates have copped 20-year bans among heavy penalties for eight players over a brawl after an under-19s match in Sydney’s west.
A Western City Tigers player – who was already under a suspension – received the 25-year ban after being found guilty of unauthorised entry onto the field, contrary behaviour and punching and kicking.
Seven of his teammates were also found guilty at a Penrith District Junior Rugby League hearing which lasted over two nights on Tuesday and Wednesday.
It stemmed from a wild brawl, also involving spectators, which erupted after the match between the Penrith Waratahs and Western City Tigers at Turnbull Oval in North Richmond on August 11.
Two Tigers players were handed 20-year suspensions for contrary behaviour and kicking while five others were given bans ranging from six games to 12 years.
Only two players, one from each side, were found not guilty by the judiciary.
NSW Police are still investigating the involvement of dozens of spectators who invaded the field during the brawl.
“Penrith District Junior Rugby League will not be commenting on these matters until authorities complete their inquiries,” a spokeswoman said in a statement on Thursday.
