JOHN GRANT’S TENURE AS ARLC CHAIRMAN:

* JULY 2011 – Accepts the inaugural ARLC chairman role and is named alongside commissioners Catherine Harris, Ian Elliott, Peter Gregg, Gary Pemberton, Jeremy Sutcliffe, Chris Sarra and Wayne Pearce

* FEBRUARY 2012 – The ARLC comes into operation after more than three years in the making, dissolving the ARL. Top of the agenda for Grant is negotiating a new NRL broadcast deal

* JUNE 2012 – Pushed by Grant, long-time NRL boss David Gallop quits as ARLC chief executive. The pair endured an apparent tense working relationship. Gallop is replaced five months later by Dave Smith

* OCTOBER 2015 – Smith quits as NRL chief executive. Todd Greenberg takes over in March 2016

* NOVEMBER 2015 – The NRL lands a record $1.8 billion five-year broadcast deal from 2018 onwards with the Nine Network, Fox Sports and Telstra

* DECEMBER 2015 – The ARLC agrees for clubs to receive an extra $100 million of funding a year between 2018 and 2022, including a grant of 130 per cent of the salary cap

* FEBRUARY 2016: Grant tells clubs if they are not running at a profit by 2018 when increased funding arrives, they risk having their licences revoked and being thrown out of the competition

* NOVEMBER 2016: The ARLC takes off the table the funding agreement, prompting four club chairmen to walk out on a meeting. Representatives from all 16 clubs sign a letter calling on Grant to resign. An emergency general meeting is called to vote on his future

* DECEMBER 2016: Grant survives the meeting by negotiating a peace deal with clubs that goes close to matching the original offer

* JUNE 2017: Grant reveals he won’t seek another term and will step down in February 2018
