Robert Jennings and Matt Eisenhuth will return to Penrith after being let go by Wests Tigers to take up short-term contracts at the foot of the mountains.

The Panthers confirmed Jennings and Eisenhuth’s homecomings on Friday, on one and two-year deals respectively.

A Penrith rookie in 2015, Jennings was among the NRL’s leading try-scorers in 2018 at South Sydney, before moving to the Tigers in 2019.

But he was not re-signed by the Michael Maguire at the end of last season, as part of a club-wide clean out that saw seven players let go.

“I was over the moon when I heard there was a chance to come back to Penrith,” Jennings said.

“This is where I grew up, where my career started and this is the place I call home.

“I’m extremely grateful to have the opportunity to reunite with so many of the talented players that I came through the grades with.

“The last couple of years have been tough but coming back to Panthers is a chance for me to hit the reset button, get back into the hard work and prove that I belong in the NRL.”

The 24-year-old will face a battle to push into Penrith’s backline, with their grand-final side not including the likes of Dean Whare or Charlie Staines and no-one moving on.

Eisenhuth meanwhile was a part of the Panthers’ reserve grade system in 2014 and 2015, when a tumour was found in his leg.

He recovered, and made his debut at the Tigers in 2017.

“In Matt’s previous stint at Panthers, he faced significant injury challenges and a cancer diagnosis that caught everyone by surprise,” Penrith general manager Matt Cameron said.

“The way he approached and overcame those setbacks to forge an NRL career is testament to his commitment and strength of character.

“Matt now returns to our club as an experienced NRL forward who is able to play a number of roles and big minutes if required.”
