Investigation into Maroon player ends

Queensland and Melbourne Storm back Will Chambers will go into the final State of Origin match without police action hanging over his head after inquiries into an assault allegation were discontinued.

Called into the side to replace injured winger Brent Tate, Chambers’s debut was under question after he was accused of assault following an altercation outside the Down Under bar in Brisbane early on Tuesday morning.

Queensland released a brief statement on the matter.

“Police have today advised they will not be further proceeding with a matter involving Will Chambers,” it read.

“Queensland Rugby League officials, staff and players will not be making any further comment.”
