NSW centre Michael Jennings says he doesn’t want to get suspended again but promises he won’t back down if Queensland target him in State of Origin II next Wednesday night.
Jennings was sin-binned and subsequently suspended after rushing in to join a fight and landing a punch during the Blues’ loss to Queensland in game one in Melbourne.
The Penrith speedster, who is still dealing with speculation around his NRL club future, admitted he wouldn’t be so rash in game 2 in Sydney.
But, asked what he’ll do if the Maroons go after him seeking a reaction, Jennings said he won’t duck for cover.
“Obviously if it happens it happens. I won’t stand down,” said Jennings in the Blues camp on Monday.
“I definitely don’t want to get suspended again.
“I’m not really focused on that (another potential fight) at the moment. I’m focused on my game and I want to be doing the best I can for the team.”
Jennings said he was not being distracted by his uncertain future at the Panthers.
Speculation still suggests the club is trying to offload their expensive star, after coach Ivan Cleary dropped him for their match against St George Illawarra back in round 10.
The 24-year-old was cut off by a Blues official from answering questions about his Panthers predicament.
“I’m good at the moment. I’m in Origin camp at the moment so my main focus, my number one now is Origin and staying focused for that,” he said.
“It’s kept me free minded and I’m just stoked to get this opportunity to represent the State again.
“I’m not focused on my club issues at the moment.
“I can’t wait until Wednesday (week).”
Of more concern to Jennings and perhaps the Blues is the limited amount of top grade football he’s seen over the past month.
Suspension and a Penrith bye means he hasn’t played since the last Origin, and he hasn’t played an NRL game since May 5.
Jennings said he’s delighted to have Penrith prop Tim Grant preparing to make his Origin debut for the Blues in game two – the pair have played together since they were eight years old.
