Parramatta coach Brad Arthur had a straight face when he suggested making more changes despite upsetting NRL pacesetters South Sydney on Friday.
The Eels snapped their three-game losing streak with a determined 26-14 victory over a depleted Rabbitohs side at Bankwest Stadium.
But the bounceback only came after Arthur axed four players to reserve grade, including club captain Tim Mannah and reigning player of the year Daniel Alvaro.
“I’m not real pleased I have to do that to get a response,” Arthur said.
“I know (the Rabbitohs) had some quality missing, but we gave ourselves a chance and over the last two-three weeks, that’s been lacking.”
Prior to their run of outs, the Eels had swapped wins and losses for two months.
Asked how he could get a repeat performance, Arthur said: “I might have to change the team again to get a response.
“We’ve got to challenge the players about having that want and desire to do that week in, week out.
“I think we’re good enough to fight our way into the semis if we have the want and desire and the right attitude.
“But it’s a tough competition and we’ve got to find a way to come with it every week.”
The form of Mitch Moses is seemingly symbolic of the team’s inconsistent run.
The off-contract star was a major factor in the contest with three try assists, the last of which stemmed the tide turning the Rabbitohs’ way in the second half.
Arthur said it wasn’t a complete performance from his main man.
“He was good for periods,” he said.
“I don’t think we got to a kick in the last couple of sets when there was 10 minutes to go and we had some good field position.
“But it was an improved performance from Mitchell. He ran the ball well, he controlled the team well – just ice some of those kicks.”
Arthur suggested forward Nathan Brown could come back from a pectoral injury to face Cronulla next week, and rookie Dylan Brown (back) the following round.
