St George Illawarra forward Tyson Frizell insists he can do a job on the left edge for NSW in game two of this year’s State of Origin series.

Frizell is one of three candidates vying to fill the boots of injured second-rower Boyd Cordner, who is facing season-ending surgery on a foot injury he picked up in game one.

The Dragons’ second-rower was 18th man in the series-opener, however Cronulla’s Wade Graham and Penrith’s Bryce Cartwright are also in contention to make their debuts.

Graham is the only one of the three who plays left edge for his club, however Frizell is confident he can swing from his more-favoured right flank at the Dragons.

Asked if he felt comfortable shifting sides, he said: “Yeah, I feel that I have.

“For that Origin position, I’m not sure what (coach Laurie Daley) wants to do, if he wants to specialise on that left-hand side. If that’s what they want, not too much I can do about that.”

Frizell admitted there was a difference in positions.

“There’s players that can do both. I’ve played most of my career on the right, (and) I started my career on the left. I can play in the middle, too. But there is guys that specialise on one side,” he said.

The Blues are expected to name their team after Monday night’s Cronulla-North Queensland game, which is after the Dragons’ clash with Canterbury.

Either way, Frizell said he didn’t want to find out until after St George Illawarra’s match.

“You can’t let those things let you worry too much when you’re playing because it can sometimes affect the way you can play,” Frizell said.

“Instead of being a team player, you might start wanting to be an individual player and that’s not what we want here at the Dragons and not what I’m about.”

Frizell was initially selected in a 19-man squad for the series-opener but was released to play for the Dragons before re-joining the Blues’ squad and warming up with them on game day.
