Brisbane centre Justin Hodges has given himself an outside chance of playing in Saturday night’s NRL clash with the Sydney Roosters after suffering a hamstring scare at the weekend.
The representative centre left the field in the second half of Brisbane’s win over St George Illawarra with fears he had torn his hamstring again.
However Hodges declined to have scans on his left leg on the weekend and the Broncos are hopeful that with an eight-day turnaround he will be able to take the field.
If he does, he will mark up on Roosters centre Michael Jennings, one of the toughest players in the NRL to defend.
The news was not so good for Hodges’ Brisbane teammate Josh McGuire, who is facing an extended spell on the sidelines after tearing his calf.
If Hodges fails in his bid to play, it’s likely back-row utility Matt Gillett will take over his position in the centres.
No matter what happens, though, Gillett will face a tough defensive night.
He’s likely to defend against Sonny Bill Williams, who was very impressive last weekend in playing 80 minutes for the Roosters.
