Hindy anoints Mannah as Eels successor

Retiring Parramatta skipper Nathan Hindmarsh has anointed prop Tim Mannah as his likely successor as captain at the NRL club from next season.

Hindmarsh on Thursday confirmed he would be hanging up the boots at the end of the current campaign, his experience sure to leave a leadership void at the Eels.

“I think there’s a number of players – Tim Mannah’s obviously a well-respected member of the team and the club and the public, so I think he’d be a good choice,” Hindmarsh said ahead of the team’s final training run before Saturday night’s clash against Manly.

“But that’s not my decision to make, I’ll leave that one up to Steve (coach Stephen Kearney).”

Hindmarsh said he didn’t expect his retirement announcement would provide an instant boost to the team’s on-field fortunes, rather suggesting it was up to the players to do it for themselves as the Eels look to turn it around after an 0-4 start to the season.
