Heavy traffic ahead of Origin kick-off

Rugby league fans are clogging major Sydney arteries as they head to the crucial second State of Origin match at ANZ Stadium in Sydney’s west.

With less than two hours to go until kick-off, citybound motorists are facing heavy traffic on the M4 between Silverwater Road and Hill Road, and on Homebush Bay Drive southbound at Australia Avenue.

Authorities are urging fans who are yet to set out to take advantage of the extra public transport on offer.

Trains will leave Central and Blacktown for Olympic Park every five to 10 minutes and major event buses are also in operation.

A NSW police spokesman said there would be a strong presence at ANZ Stadium as the Blues prepared to take on the Maroons in their last shot at Origin glory for the year.

No major incidents had been reported so far, he said.
