Hayne wants his NRL form to do the talking

Jarryd Hayne hit back at comments questioning his attitude after starring in Gold Coast’s 38-8 win over Newcastle in round nine of the NRL.

Hayne drew criticism for his on-field attitude during his return from injury last week.

“When you look at the way we played today it goes to show how much bullshit it is,” Hayne said after the win on Saturday.

“I’ll let my football do the talking and that speaks louder than anyone’s comments.

“When you let the football do the talking they look like idiots. I think we did that today.”

The former NSW Origin fullback started in the centres for the Titans and says he’s focused on playing good rugby league to earn his recall to the side.

“We haven’t gone well since ’14. I just need to worry about what I do and the rest will look after itself,” Hayne said on Saturday.

“Like you’ve seen today, I can play anywhere and I enjoy playing anywhere and I think when you’ve played the game as long as I have you can fit yourself in.”

Titans coach Neil Henry is confident Hayne would perform strongly for the Blues.

“He can play at centre or wing at club or Origin level. He’s versatile and he’s a big body out there which is good for defence,” Henry said.

The playmaker showed his brute strength and power to get the Titans on the board as he took a quick tap and burrowed through the Knights defensive line, something he’s honed since being at Gold Coast.

“I saw them lining up waiting for us to set up and go through one of our set starts,” Hayne said.

“I just barrelled at them – it was a Ryan James special.”

It set the tone for the former NFL player, who ran for more than 100m, broke the line twice and scored two tries.

Hayne expects to be back at full fitness within the next week and will be treating the upcoming bye as a “mini pre-season”.

Gold Coast have won both matches since Hayne returned from injury, recording back-to-back victories for the first time this season.
