Hayne trains on eve of Broncos’ NRL clash

Parramatta’s Jarryd Hayne hasn’t given up on playing in the Eels’ NRL opener against Brisbane with the star fullback completing a training session on Thursday morning.

Hayne has a hamstring injury and was left out of the Eels side named to play the Broncos at Parramatta Stadium on Friday night.

Eels coach Stephen Kearney said on Thursday medical staff had been working hard to get Hayne right for the match.

“He’s completed a run-up in the gym on our treadmill this morning and it’s a matter of how he pulls up after that,” Kearney said.

“He’s giving himself every opportunity … he’s really positive about it but it’s all about how he pulls up this afternoon.”

Kearney confirmed that Luke Burt, who has been named at fullback, would take the goalkicking duties to ease the load on big-money signing and halfback Chris Sandow.
