Jarryd Hayne has been ruled out of Thursday night’s NRL clash against Parramatta due to an ankle injury.

The Gold Coast star took a knock in last week’s defeat to St George Illawarra and failed to train on the field this week, with the 29-year-old restricted to gym work.

It means Hayne may have played under Neil Henry for the last time, with reports claiming the Titans coach will be sacked after the clash with the Eels at ANZ Stadium.

It also means Hayne is yet to face Parramatta since leaving his former club to pursue an NFL career in 2014, having also missed their earlier meeting this season with an ankle problem.

Hayne was named at fullback but his absence is likely to trigger a backline reshuffle, with William Zillman or Tyrone Roberts capable of moving into the No.1 position.

It continues a tumultuous week for Gold Coast, who have been rocked by talk of a rift between Hayne and Henry, and suggestions that some other players are also at odds with the coach.

The Titans interviewed both Hayne and Henry individually on Monday to investigate their feud and subsequently called a snap board meeting to determine the best course of action.

It lasted three hours and provided no resolution, with a decision deferred until next week.

However, News Corp Australia reported shortly after the meeting that Henry would be the one axed.

Henry played down the situation in his press conference on Tuesday, saying he wanted to stay with Gold Coast and denying there was any rift with Hayne.
