Rugby league star Greg Bird has been fined for drunkenly refusing to leave a Byron Bay hotel in northern NSW.
The former Gold Coast forward, who a week ago left the Titans to join French side Catalans in the English Super League, has copped a $550 penalty over the September 17 incident.
Police last month claimed Bird and his group were asked to leave the premises because of their “levels of intoxication”, alleging a brawl had broken out with security staff.
“It’s alleged a 32-year-old man was asked to leave a licensed premises by security staff but failed to comply,” NSW police said in a statement to AAP on Tuesday.
“The man was assisted out of the location by a friend with no further incident.
He was issued an infringement notice including the fine on Monday.
Bird previously claimed he would be exonerated over the incident.
“I left the premises(s) and someone from our party stayed and got into a physical altercation with the security,” he wrote on Instagram in September.
“Me along with everyone else in the group ran into (sic) separate the two involved and no-one else threw any punches.
“There is footage and witnesses to verify this.”
Bird played 129 games for the Gold Coast, as well as 18 Origin games for NSW and 17 Tests, but was dropped from both representative sides this year.
He has joined the French-based Catalans on a five-year deal.
