Green not drawn into NRL Lowe blow

When North Queensland Cowboys Coach Paul Green arrived at 1300 Smiles Stadium on Friday night he didn’t need directions.

“I managed to find the dressing room which was a good start,” he told AAP.

The jest followed a week where the 2015 premiership winner’s coaching style was reportedly questioned by an unnamed former Cowboy who now plays in Sydney.

South Sydney Rabbitohs forward Ethan Lowe is the only player who fits that description, but Green wasn’t going to be drawn after his clubs pressure relieving 28-14 win over the Gold Coast.

“I’m not too worried about who said it, unless someone puts a name to it I’m not going to buy into it,” Green said.

But in a twist of fate a Hollywood blockbuster would be proud of the Cowboys are scheduled to play Lowe’s Rabbitohs next Sunday.

One of North Queensland’s 2015 heroes himself, Lowe was unceremoniously dumped by Green in the off-season after he fell out of favour.

Now playing for a much higher-flying South Sydney team the utility forward will take on his former club for the first time.

Cowboys star Jason Taumalolo denies there’ll be any bad blood on the pitch.

“No, Lowie has been playing well for them coming off the bench, he’s a new player,” Taumalolo said.

“He is my old roommate though so he will want to get one up on us.”

Of concern for the Cowboys and Queensland is the injury sustained to prop Josh McGuire, who came off early against the Titans.

“Hopefully it’s not too bad … it looks like a low grade calf injury but we’ll assess it over the next couple of days,” Green said.

Meanwhile Gold Coast Coach Garth Brennan has vowed to question the NRL referees, believing the decisive Cowboys try was an obstruction.

“He (the ref) says to our captain “we look at the impact it has on the play” well that’s not what was explained to me before the season, I will be taking it up.” Brennan said.

Having found his dressing room, Paul Green was happy to hand Brennan a map.

“That try?,” he asked.

“Look at the scoreboard.”
