North Queensland coach Paul Green has revealed Jake Granville played on in their last round NRL win over South Sydney with a broken leg after confirming the hooker would be sidelined for up to six weeks.
And fullback Lachlan Coote is in doubt for Saturday night’s home clash with Wests Tigers with another calf complaint.
Green said Granville suffered the fracture with six minutes left in their 20-6 victory in Townsville but thought it was a cork.
“He finished the game with a broken leg,” Green said.
“He thought he had a cork.
“He’s a tough guy. I think that is part of the reason why everyone loves playing with him.”
Green will name a replacement hooker when he unveils his team for the Tigers clash from 4pm AEST on Tuesday.
The Cowboys mentor said Granville’s replacement may have the role for some time.
“He will be out for best case scenario three weeks, worst case six weeks,” Green said.
“He started the year really well.
“His form was down a bit last year but we spoke about a few things in the pre-season and where he needed to focus his game and I thought he had done that really well.
“He was another point of our attack and defensively he was really tough for us in the middle – it’s really disappointing for Jake.”
Green said Coote was also a concern after being forced to miss training so far this week.
Coote is nursing the same sore calf that sidelined him for two games before his comeback match against the Rabbitohs.
“He’s under an injury cloud. Hopefully he will train either tomorrow or Friday,” Green said.
“When you have that (injury) you get scar tissue build-up over it and when you disrupt the scar tissue it feels very similar to when you strain it.
“It does put you at risk if you are to play again the following week.
“We will see how he pulls up but we won’t take any unnecessary risks.”
