The Gold Coast Titans kicked their 2014 season off with a 18 – 12 win over a injury stricken Sharks at Remondis Stadium last Monday night.

The Titans had the better of the going in the early stages of the match but were unable to produce points for their efforts and found themselves trialling 6 – 0 early after Tinirau Arona scored for the home side.
It wasn’t until the 23rd minute that the Titans posted points through a Greg Bird try which was followed by an 90 metre intercept to Albert Kelly seven minutes later, giving the Titans a much deserved half-time lead of 10 – 6.
Again in the second half, the Titans found it hard to capitalise on their opportunities and it wasn’t until the 70th minute, when fullback William Zillman scored, that Titans found themselves in a winning position.
The Titans will be pleased with the two points but aware that still plenty of improvement is required if there are to be a force this season.
The Tigers got off to a flyer last week against the Dragons and had registered 12 points inside of the first ten minutes of the match through tries to winger Pat Richards and fullback James Tedesco.
Poor mistakes though allowed the Dragons back into the match and at half-time, the Tigers found themselves behind 20 – 18 after letting Dragons cross for three tries.

A try each in the first ten minutes of the second half kept the game in the balance but it was the Dragons who finished the strongest, running in three late tries to register a 20 point win, 44 – 24.
The Tigers’ regular lapses of concentration proved costly.
The two sides have only met once in each of the past two seasons, with honours split.
The Titans have won three of the past four played at Skilled Stadium – now CBUS Super Stadium – and they’re the more reliable team.
