Gold Coast Titans vs Melbourne Storm 2014 NRL Round 14 preview, tips, odds and teams

After a great start to the season that saw them occupy the top spot on the ladder after six rounds, it’s been a steady slide down for the Titans since who have now fallen to tenth.

Last week they suffered their fourth straight loss and their fifth from the past six matches.

They Titans hosted the Panthers and were in the match despite being behind 14 – 8 at the break but that’s were the scoring ended for the home-side whilst the Panthers crossed for four second half tries.

It continues a worrying trend of poor second half performances form the Titans that have seen their opponents finish much the stronger.

They’ll need to start putting full 80 minute performances together if they are going to remain in touch with the top half of the competition.

Greg Bird and Nate Myles will miss this game due to Origin with Beau Falloon returning to the Hooker role a plus.

The Titans have plenty of speed out wide but need their forward pack to lay the foundation up the middle before this asset can be utilised.

STORM

Just when the Storm looked to have found some of their old form with wins of the Roosters and Manly, the Origin series and the fallout of the first game have hit the Melbourne Club hard.

For only the fifth time in the club’s history, they failed to register a point in the 22 – 0 loss to the Cowboys in Townsville. A game they played with Billy Slater and Cooper Cronk who suffered injuries in Origin I two days prior.

Last week, they were defeated 32 – 12 by the Roosters and the task this week doesn’t look any brighter with Captain Cameron Smith, Ryan Hoffman and Centre Will Chambers all involved in Origin II next week.

It means the Storm field a very foreign side with Coach Craig Bellamy still not sure of the final make-up, naming eight on an extended bench Tuesday.

The Storm will play a simple game and stay focused, a trait of the club and an expectation of their coach and their persistence will ensure the Titans have to produce something better than they have in recent weeks.

HEAD TO HEAD

The Titans can boast two wins from their last three stoushes against the Storm, winning by six points and in their most recent clash in round 5 of this year, sneaking home by two.

The Titans are not in the same form at the moment though but luckily, they meet the Storm who are struggling with Origin and injuries at present and this should leave the Titans with no excuses.
