Cronulla are hopeful Paul Gallen’s knee injury isn’t too serious despite confirmation on Friday night the Sharks captain won’t return to the field against St George Illawarra.
Gallen limped from the field early in the first half of the WIN Stadium clash after he fell in an awkward tackle as he attempted to get a kick away.
Initial treatment indicated the 36-year-old had suffered a medial ligament strain, which is at the lower end of knee injuries.
The Cronulla veteran is in the 18th season of his NRL career.
He got through an entire year without missing a Cronulla game in 2017 for the first time since 2005.
He’s already endured back and foot complaints this season but is yet to miss a game for the Sharks.
