Former NRL star Sims signs for Hull KR

Super League bottom club Hull KR have stepped up their recruitment for 2021 with the capture of Fiji international Korbin Sims on a two-year contract.

The 28-year-old brother of former Warrington prop Ashton Sims becomes the Robins’ third recruit from the NRL following the signing of Melbourne forward Albert Vete and former Leeds winger Ryan Hall from the Sydney Roosters.

Sims was released from the remainder of his contract by St George Illawarra to enable him to make the move to Super League.

“He brings international as well as NRL experience. He’s a guy that gives everything every time he walks onto the pitch. He’s very professional in his approach to his game and he is always looking to develop,” Rovers coach Tony Smith said.

“He’s super-keen … we don’t want anyone to come here that doesn’t want to be here and he’s quite the opposite. If I asked him to get on the plane tomorrow, he’d jump on the plane.

“He’s an excitable character and I think he’ll develop into a fans favourite.”

“He can play anywhere in the forward pack, on the edge or in the middle. He comes from a rugby league family, so he’s been brought up on it, he lives and breathes it.”

Sims, who has played for Newcastle, Brisbane and St George Illawarra, has featured for Fiji alongside brothers Ashton and Tariq while sister Ruan Sims has played for the Australia women’s team.

“I’m very excited about the opportunity that has presented itself for me and my family,” Sims said.

“When my manger had told me that there had been some interest from England and Rovers, I was a bit taken aback at first, but when I really thought about it, I saw it as a great opportunity to further my football career.”
