Foran to miss Manly’s Canberra NRL clash

Kieran Foran will sit out Manly’s NRL clash with Canberra on Sunday after failing to shake off the hamstring injury that’s sidelined him for the past three matches.

Foran, who rejected a move to Canterbury last week to remain with the premiers, sustained the problem in the Sea Eagles’ shock loss to struggling Parramatta in round five and said the injury was more serious than first expected.

“I’m not back this week, I am hopeful for next week,” Foran said on Tuesday.

“It’s been an ongoing injury, at first we didn’t think it was that bad but as we’ve tried to get more movement on it, it hasn’t really gone to plan.”

The 21-year-old New Zealander said he was keen not to rush back too soon and said it was too much of a risk to come back early and potentially spend longer on the sidelines.

“I just want to be out on the field, and you tell yourself that it’s right,” he said.

“But with hamstring injuries, they are a funny one. You can’t really be out there as you may do more damage.”

Foran’s place in the side has been taken by his brother Liam and Sea Eagles coach Geoff Toovey has been pleased with the way he’s deputised for his younger sibling.

“We’ve certainly missed Kieran in the halves but the players who’ve filled in have done well,” Toovey said.

“Liam has been good. He’s been consistent and it’s just a matter of keeping him focused and I am sure he will do his brother proud.”
