Late Gold Coast addition Jordan Rankin had a night to forget as Wests Tigers skipper Robbie Farah slotted the winning field goal in a 15-14 NRL golden point victory at Skilled Park.

NSW Origin hopeful Farah hit an 18-metre left-foot field goal two minutes into extra time on Saturday night to inflict the Titans’ 13th loss from their past 14 home games.

The Titans had clung bravely to a 14-12 lead for a tense 20 minutes until Tigers star Benji Marshall booted a gift penalty in the 80th minute to tie the clash up at 14-all and send it into golden point.

The Tigers were awarded the penalty after Farah, who had charged down Rankin’s clearing kick with just over one minute left, was brought down by Titans fullback Phil Graham without the ball.

Graham was banished to the sin bin, leaving the Titans with 12 men in extra time.

If Rankin, who was called into the halves on Friday to replace William Zillman (hamstring), wasn’t feeling bad enough after the charge down, he was shattered after dropping the ball cold in the first set of golden point before Farah stole the game.

The 20-year-old, who looked sharp at times in broken play, also made a bad decision late in the first half, kicking the ball when he broke into the clear instead of off-loading to his supports.

It was a tough loss for the Titans, who played strongly to open up a 14-0 lead at halftime.

Farah admitted the Tigers’ win hadn’t been pretty for the 14,254 fans.

“But that’s three wins in a row now and we have a bye next weekend,” he said as shattered Titans players slumped to the ground around him.

“We’re back into the competition.”

After giving up 30 points to Parramatta in a crazy final 15 minutes of their 31-30 win over Parramatta last weekend, the Tigers showed a lot of resolve to claw their way back into the game after first-half tries to Titans wingers Kevin Gordon and David Mead.
