NSW hooker Robbie Farah has little doubt his fractured cheekbone will be a target for Queensland defenders on Wednesday night, but insists the extra attention is just part of State of Origin.
Farah has not played since fracturing his cheekbone and breaking his nose courtesy of a errant elbow from teammate Paul Gallen midway through the first half of NSW’s series-opening win on June 5.
He admits he will head into the Suncorp Stadium rematch under the risk of re-fracturing the bone, but is confident the injury will not prove a hindrance as the Blues look to wrap up their first series win since 2005.
“There’s always the risk of copping a direct knock to it that something might go wrong, but that’s a minimal risk,” Farah said.
“I wanted to play (for Wests Tigers) last week, but the doc said with the extra ten days, every day you leave it the stronger it is.
“He’s confident that by Wednesday I’ll be fully healed.”
Fully healed or not, Farah anticipates the Maroons conducting their own brand of fitness test.
“I’m sure I’ll come under scrutiny or a bit of extra attention,” Farah said.
“But that’s to be expected, that’s Origin, so it’s all part of it.”
After breaking from camp on Friday, the Blues reconvened on Sunday morning where they held an opposed session against the Cronulla NYC side in heavy rain at WIN Jubilee Stadium.
The entire squad took part in the session, with Anthony Watmough (cork) and Paul Gallen (knee) allaying any fears over their fitness.
The Blues head to enemy territory on Sunday night, with their only remaining training session being Tuesday’s captain’s run at Suncorp Stadium.
