Fantastic Fox finds new home in Melbourne

Shortly before packing his bags and moving to Melbourne from Wests Tigers, flyer Josh Addo-Carr vowed to one day return to the joint venture.

Just 12 months on, having been talked about as a future representative star and on the verge of playing in his first NRL grand final, he has cause to reconsider.

Like so many before him, the 21-year-old has been transformed from a middle-of-the-road player to out-and-out gun since entering the Storm system.

After making nine appearances in his debut season with the Tigers last year, he inked a three-year deal with the Storm.

With few guarantees, he moved to the Victorian capital and has set the competition alight in 2017, crossing for 21 tries in 26 games.

If he can grab three against North Queensland in Sunday’s decider, he will be a chance to shoot ahead of teammate Suliasi Vunivalu (23) to the top of the competition’s try-scoring list.

“I came down here hoping to get in the side and I had a lot of competition and I’m very grateful to be here in the starting 17,” said Addo-Carr who this year earned his first representative jumper with NSW City.

“I’ve grown so much. This club has helped me be the man I am today. It’s been really good for myself and my family and I’m just loving my time here, loving playing football. I’m very happy.”

At the time of his departure from the Tigers, he said wanted to one day return.

Asked about those comments and whether he still harboured a desire to one day play out of Concord he said: “I felt like that. But who knows? I want to focus on now, not think about the future.”

Addo-Carr, affectionately nicknamed “The Fox”, has been one of the buys of the season and describes his move to the Storm as “the best thing I’ve ever done”.

“Everyone back home was just saying they’ll get the best out of you,” he said.

“All I wanted to do was get the best out of myself and it’s been really good.”
