Eels young gun Brown out with back injury

Parramatta young gun Dylan Brown has had the wind knocked from the sails of his stellar rookie season after being sidelined with a back injury.

Brown will miss Saturday’s NRL clash with Cronulla with Jaeman Salmon to move into the No.6 jumper.

The Sharks will be without fullback Matt Moylan because of a hamstring problem with exciting centre Bronson Xerri to debut as part of a backline reshuffle.

Meanwhile, Wests Tigers playmaker Benji Marshall looks set to miss Friday’s NRL blockbuster against Penrith, with Josh Reynolds to receive his first call up of the year.

Marshall failed to train with his Tigers teammates on Tuesday due to a hamstring strain suffered in Sunday’s win over Canterbury.

The Tigers say veteran Marshall will be given every chance to prove his fitness, though it appears unlikely he will face the Panthers.

“It looks like it (Reynolds will play his first NRL game of the season), we’re just waiting to hear back from the medical staff on how Benji pulls up,” skipper Moses Mbye said.

“He was escorted from the field with a tight hamstring. If he’s not quite right, and he’s got a history with the hammies, we’ve got Josh there who has been plying his trade in reserve grade the last couple off weeks and is doing a really good job.”

Former NSW State of Origin series winner Reynolds started the season in reserve grade as coach Michael Maguire chose to partner Marshall with Luke Brooks in the halves.

After signing a four-year $3 million deal with the Tigers, Reynolds was restricted to just five games last season because of injury before starting 2019 in the NSW Cup.

Elsewhere, Warriors coach Stephen Kearney has swung the axe following his side’s 46-12 capitulation against Manly, dropping five-eighth Adam Keighran.

Junior Kiwis playmaker Chanel Harris-Tavita will make his NRL debut while hooker Issac Luke (hamstring) will sit out their clash with the Gold Coast, with Kane Lawnton to wear the No.9.
