Eels’ Moses feels for struggling Tigers

Parramatta star Mitchell Moses admits he sympathises with former NRL club Wests Tigers after playing a leading role in their one-point loss on Sunday.

In his first match against his ex-teammates since switching teams two months ago, Moses set up a late field goal for halves partner Corey Norman in their top-eight consolidating win.

It was the Tigers’ ninth loss in their past 10 games, however Moses insists he still keeps a close eye on his old team and sees plenty of fight.

“They’re trying their heart our every week and you can see that, you can’t fault that in their footy, it’s not like they’re throwing the towel in and giving away their season,” Moses said.

“They’re playing each week and trying their best each week. I definitely feel a bit for them, but I’m happy where I am at the moment.”

Moses was shielded from media in the lead-up to what was built as a grudge match, but he experienced little animosity from Tigers players and fans out of the 30,901 crowd.

He said he had endured worse in other games this season.

“I didn’t hear one sledge at all. I was expecting it a bit more. I think there were a few more Parra fans than Tigers fans out there,” he said.

“I probably cop a bit more sledging in other games than today. I expected it but it was pretty good and to come away with a win against your old club, it was good.”

The 22-year-old also insisted his combination with Norman is evolving, with the pair splitting game-winning field goals in two of the club’s past three games.

Coach Brad Arthur revealed last week was the first time they practised field goal sets this year, and Moses said Norman’s clutch play was exactly how they had planned.

“We did one during the week and it was the exact same situation,” he said.

“I told the boys to get me to the spot on the field and I’d put it over but they had a lot of pressure on me and Normy called it late and I had full faith he was going to knock it over and he did.

“He’s a big-time player.”
