Eels may challenge Allgood charge

Parramatta officials are considering challenging the grading of the striking charge levelled at prop Mitchell Allgood following his flurry of punches in Monday night’s heavy NRL loss to Manly.

Allgood was slapped with a grade three striking charge for his 73rd minute attack on Steve Matai, when the Manly centre rushed up to confront Allgood after the Eels big man hand delivered a swinging arm in a tackle.

Allgood faces two weeks on the sidelines with an early guilty plea, but could be banned for three matches if he unsuccessfully challenges the charge at the judiciary on Wednesday night.

He is the third player to feel the wrath of the match review committee following the crackdown on fighting, with NSW forwards Paul Gallen and Trent Merrin also charged after landing punches in the opening two State of Origin games.

Gallen and Merrin both received grade one charges, and it is believed the Eels are considering whether Allgood’s actions warranted a the more severe grade three charge.

The Eels are expected to make a call on whether to challenge the grading by Tuesday afternoon.
