Eels’ Edwards on domestic violence charges

Parramatta forward Kenny Edwards has appeared in court on Tuesday on domestic violence charges.

The 27-year-old was arrested and charged with common assault and intimidation after allegedly pouring a drink on his 26-year-old partner at their Parramatta home on Sunday afternoon.

Edwards’ NRL career is hanging in the balance having previously been axed by Manly and St George Illawarra and embroiled in a scandal in which he took a drugs test for teammate Kaysa Pritchard.

Eels chief executive Bernie Gurr released a statement saying the NRL had been notified and Edwards will continue to train and play while the court action is pending.

“The club views this incident as extremely serious and immediately alerted the NRL Integrity Unit, as per our normal process,” said Gurr.
