DCE, Buhrer to miss a month of footy

Manly star Daly Cherry-Evans is set to be sidelined for a month after injuring his ankle in the Sea Eagles’ round four win over the Sydney Roosters.

Sea Eagles teammate Jamie Buhrer will also likely sit out four games with a broken hand.

Both players will have scans on Monday to determine the full extent of the injuries. But Manly indicated in a statement on Sunday they will be out of action for a while.

“Both are expected to have a spell on the sideline,” the statement read.

Cherry-Evans limped off late in Manly’s 22-20 win over the Roosters at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night.

Buhrer left the field in the first half nursing his hand in his first game of the year after suffering a broken jaw in the Auckland Nines.

Captain Jamie Lyon is expected to shift into the halves for Cherry-Evans in Thursday night’s fixture against South Sydney at Brookvale Oval.

Manly will welcome back Martin Taupau and Brenton Lawrence for that match. The duo served a suspension during the win over the Roosters.

South Sydney forward Sam Burgess is also expected to make his return from a neck injury for that round five match.
