Preview:
The first Sunday game is between the Sharks and Cowboys, 2.00pm at Remondis Stadium. The Sharks will be expected to win here, although this is far from a given. North Queensland are on an impressive 4 game winning streak at the moment, and are currently sitting in 8th ladder position. The 6th placed Sharks will still be looking for a top four berth, however, which would be a great way for them to finish off a fantastic and unexpected season. This will be a tightly fought match, and a great Sunday arvo of footy.
Teams:
Cronulla Sharks:
Michael Gordon, Sosaia Feki, Ben Pomeroy, Jonathan Wright, Beau Ryan, Todd Carney, Jeff Robson, Andrew Fifita, John Morris, Sam Tagataese, Luke Lewis, Wade Graham, Paul Gallen. Interchange: Isaac De Gois, Chris Heighington, Jayson Bukuya, Anthony Tupou, Bryce Gibbs
Nth Queensland Cowboys:
Matthew Bowen, Wayne Ulugia, Brent Tate, Kane Linnett, Antonio Winterstein, Johnathan Thurston, Robert Lui, Matthew Scott, Rory Kostjasyn, James Tamou, Gavin Cooper, Glenn Hall, Joel Riethmuller. Interchange: Jayden Hodges, Tariq Sims, Scott Bolton, Ricky Thorby, Ashton Sims
Pomeroy not guilty of dangerous throw
Cronulla centre Ben Pomeroy has been found not guilty of a dangerous throw on Sydney Roosters fullback Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and is free to play in the Sharks clash with North Queensland on Sunday.
Pomeroy was charged by the NRL match review committee with a grade one dangerous throw on young gun Tuivasa-Sheck for a tackle in the 72nd minute of the Sharks’ shock 32-22 win over the Roosters on Monday night.
The Sharks opted to fight the charge at the NRL judiciary on Wednesday night and were successful.
Pomeroy will now take his place in the fifth-placed Cronulla side to play the in-form Cowboys who have won their last four matches and sit in eighth spot with two rounds to play before the final series.
Newcastle prop Kade Snowden, who was outed for seven weeks for a shoulder charge on Cowboys hooker Ray Thompson and Canterbury forward Frank Pritchard, who will miss two matches due to a shoulder charge on South Sydney centre Bryson Goodwin, remain the two players subject to suspensions from round 24 NRL action.
