Croker, Shillo to play final Raiders trial

Canberra look set to field a near full-strength line-up in their final NRL trial against anterCbury on Saturday, with Jarrod Croker and David Shillington both recovered from niggling injuries.

The only big name to sit out the match will be front-rower Tom Learoyd-Lahrs, who has been rested as a precaution after injuring his foot in the last trial against Melbourne.

But coach David Furner said Learoyd-Lahrs already had solid game time under his belt, having played a half of the All Stars match last month, and another 30 minutes of the Storm game before he was forced off.

It’s a different story for Croker and Shillington, who have yet to earn any trial minutes heading into the Raiders’ opening NRL round clash on March 3.

Croker has been given the all-clear from his knee injury, while Shillington’s infected elbow is also on the mend.

Furner expects to give his top-tier side a solid workout in the trial at Wagga Wagga and potentially a full 80 minutes for players like five-eighth Terry Campese, halves partner Josh McCrone and star fullback Josh Dugan.

“We’re nearly full-strength … so it will give us a good test,” he told reporters in Canberra on Friday.

Furner was impressed with the Raiders’ efforts last week, when they won 27-18 over a Storm outfit minus their star trio of Cooper Cronk, Cameron Smith and Billy Slater.

This week, he wants the Raiders to focus on their defence against an attacking Bulldogs squad.

“Canterbury also play a different style of football, so I really want to get our defensive line tested more than we did last week,” he said.

“I’ve asked them to up the ante in defence.”

Des Hasler’s Bulldogs come into the game on a loss, after falling to the Sydney Roosters 28-16 at Belmore Oval last Sunday, but will also field close to their first-pick side on Saturday, minus captain Michael Ennis.

Trent Hodkinson is set to play his first minutes in 2012 after recovering from off-season knee surgery, while famed international prop James Graham is also likely to get his first start after being named on the bench against the Roosters.

Squad: Glen Buttriss, Shaun Berrigan, Terry Campese, Jarrod Croker, Josh Dugan, Shaun Fensom, Blake Ferguson, Bronson Harrison, Sam Mataora, Josh McCrone, Josh Papalii, Dimitri Pelo, Reece Robinson, Sami Sauiluma, David Shillington, Joel Thompson, Trevor Thurling, Dane Tilse, Travis Waddell, Brett White, Sam Williams.
