North Queensland coach Paul Green has no intention of resting any of his State of Origin players when the team reconvenes after next week’s bye.

The Cowboys are now six points out of second place on the NRL ladder after falling to a 26-12 defeat to Canberra on Monday night without their State of Origin stars.

And while the rest of the squad enjoy a week’s break, Green will wait with bated breath on his Origin quintet getting through the dead rubber in Sydney unscathed.

Co-captains Johnathan Thurston and Matt Scott, James Tamou, Justin O’Neill and Queensland debutant Gavin Cooper are all partaking in game three.

“Everyone will get a chance to freshen up, we’ll reassess once we get through Wednesday night,” he said.

“I’ll hold my breath for another couple of days and hope we get through alright. And then once we all get back together, we’ll assess how they are and finish (the season) off.”

The Cowboys can fall as low as sixth with a heavy loss in their next clash, a top-four battle against Canterbury on Thursday week.

Green said it is unlikely any of his Origin representatives would miss the match.

“The way the schedule’s turned out this year has allowed us to give them time off at different stages. A couple of rests have been forced due to injury but we’ve managed everyone well,” he said.

Five-eighth Michael Morgan is expected to be back from a knee injury he picked up in Origin II, while the club will assess prop Ben Hannant, who failed to finish the match against Canberra.

Green was confident Hannant would pull up okay.

“Benny got a head knock. He got a burner as well, and in the same tackle hurt his wrist. There’s a fair bit going on there so well see how he pulls up,” he said.

The Cowboys have seven games remaining, including two bouts with the Bulldogs, and match-ups against current top-eight sides Melbourne and the Warriors.
