Cordner cleared of ankle fracture

Sydney Roosters back-rower Boyd Cordner has been cleared of a fractured ankle but fears remain the boom youngster could be ruled out of the tricolours’ finals campaign.

Cordner suffered the injury late in the Roosters 28-22 win over Canberra on Saturday night which took the Eastern Suburbs-based club to the outright lead of the NRL for the first time since round 17, 2004.

The NSW representative fell awkwardly in a tackle and had to helped from the field.

He did not return.

“Boyd Cordner has been cleared of a fracture and will have further scans tomorrow to determine the extent of injury,” the Roosters commented on their Twitter account on Sunday.

With four rounds remaining until the start of the NRL finals series a long-term injury would rule Cordner out for the rest of the season.
