Cherry-Evans fit to play England

Playmaker Daly Cherry-Evans is to play for the Kangaroos in their must-win match against England at AAMI Stadium on Sunday after overcoming a hip injury.

Canterbury forward David Klemmer has been named to make his Test debut from a beefed-up Australian bench alongside fellow forwards Boyd Cordner, Josh Papalii and halfback Ben Hunt, who is also poised to debut.

Cherry-Evans suffered the injury in last weekend’s loss to New Zealand and spent the lead-up to the Four Nations clash battling the complaint.

But the Manly premiership winner has been named in coach Tim Sheen’s side to partner Cooper Cronk in the Australian halves.

Ryan Hoffman and Aidan Guerra drop out from the extended bench named last week.

Newcastle utility back Sione Mata’utia will become the youngest-ever Kangaroo when he takes the field on Australia’s right wing.

England captain Sean O’Loughlin has overcome a quadriceps complaint to take his place in the England back row in place of Joe Westerman.

Dan Sarginson has replaced Michael Shenton at centre for the visitors in their only other change.

After the Kiwis’ narrow victory over Samoa yesterday, Australia need to beat England to keep their hopes of qualifying for the Four Nations final in two weeks alive.
