What should have been a marquee clash has been dulled slightly by Origin omissions, but Friday night’s showdown between the Bulldogs and Broncos at Accor Stadium still looms as a crucial test for both sides.
Canterbury will be desperate to rebound after surrendering top spot in a gritty 8-6 loss to Penrith. They’re once again without several key men, including Stephen Crichton and Max King, while Daniel Suluka-Fifita is also sidelined. The Broncos are in the same boat, missing four Origin stars including Reece Walsh and Payne Haas.
Despite that, Brisbane have surged into fifth on the back of three straight wins, with Selwyn Cobbo returning to fullback and Deine Mariner back in the centres. Their 42-18 Round 8 win over the Bulldogs kickstarted their revival.
The Bulldogs boast a strong record at Accor, but with both sides fielding patched-up squads, the Broncos’ recent form and scoring power may give them the edge in another high-scoring affair.
