Preview:
The last game of the last round of 2013 is between the Sharks and Raiders, Sunday at 7.00pm at Canberra Stadium. The importance of this game will depend on earlier results, with the Sharks perhaps already having locked in fifth spot before kickoff on Sunday night. Canberra will be slight favourites to win this one at home, however, even though they continue to struggle with consistency. Cronulla have won 6 of their last 9 games at Canberra Stadium though, so even the home ground advantage might not be enough for the Raiders.
Teams:
Canberra Raiders:
Anthony Milford, Reece Robinson, Jarrod Croker, Sami Sauiluma, Bill Tupou, Terry Campese, Mitch Cornish, David Shillington, Josh McCrone, Brett White, Josh Papalii, Joel Thompson, Joel Edwards. Interchange: Shaun Berrigan, Joe Picker, Dane Tilse, Paul Vaughan.
Cronulla Sharks:
Michael Gordon, Sosaia Feki, Ben Pomeroy, Jonathan Wright, Beau Ryan, Todd Carney, Jeff Robson, Andrew Fifita, John Morris, Sam Tagataese, Luke Lewis, Anthony Tupou, Chris Heighington. Interchange: Isaac De Gois, Tyrone Peachey, Ben Ross, Bryce Gibbs.
Gallen accepts one-match NRL ban
Cronulla skipper Paul Gallen will miss the Sharks’ final NRL game of the regular season after accepting a one-match ban for his crusher tackle on North Queensland’s Scott Bolton.
Gallen opted to take the early guilty plea on Tuesday after being slapped a grade one dangerous contact – unnecessary head/neck pressure charge for the incident in Sunday’s match against the Cowboys.
The suspension rules the NSW and Australian Test lock out for Sunday’s away clash with Canberra.
He will be available for the Sharks’ opening finals encounter next weekend.
“A replacement for Gallen will be named when the Sharks team to play the Raiders is announced by coach Shane Flanagan later today,” the club said in a statement on their website.
