Preview:

The last match of the round is between the Brisbane Broncos and Canberra Raiders, kicking off on Monday night at 7.00pm. While neither of these two sides has been impressive over the last few weeks, they are fairly evenly matched for this encounter. The Broncos were thumped by 40 points last week against the Warriors, and they may have a tough time picking up from that performance. The Brisbane side will go into this match as favourites, however, especially with Sam Thaiday, Matt Gillet, and Corey Parker all back from State of Origin duty.

Canberra Raiders:

Flying Canberra winger Edrick Lee says he’s noticed opposition NRL players have started blocking his run while zeroing in on the high ball.

And with good reason.

The 1.97m former Brisbane Bullets development squad member in the NBL has bagged several four-pointers from kicks to his wing this year, the most recent being his second try against Manly in round 11.

“I’ve noticed over the past few weeks that there are teams that are blocking me. At training that’s one thing I’m working on under the high ball,” he said.

“I guess it’s just having that awareness of them blocking you. For me that does come natural. The more and more I practice, the better I get at it and the opportunities will come.”

The 20-year-old is backing up his stellar debut season in 2012 where he scored six tries in seven matches.

His reliability in the air as well as in finishing off backline moves has resulted in him once again being named on the wing for the Raiders’ Monday night NRL clash against Brisbane at Canberra Stadium.

While for now he’s just aiming to play consistently well to hold down that starting spot, he has dreams of earning a Maroons State of Origin jersey.

“At the start of pre-season I got selected in the emerging Queensland squad,” he said.

“That was a real eye opener just to be a part of it. Later down the track I have set a goal to be there.”

And he isn’t shy of the physicality Origin football imposes either, taking no issue with Paul Gallen’s dust up on Nate Myles on Wednesday night.

“As a big fan of the State of Origin I guess that’s one thing I was looking forward to and for that to occur, it just really got me hyped up,” he said.

“I’m sure at the time the whole crowd would have got behind it.”
