Burgess takes early plea for Souths

South Sydney enforcer Sam Burgess will be free to face Manly in Friday’s NRL crunch encounter after taking the early guilty plea to a grade two careless high tackle charge.

Burgess was placed on report for a challenge on Gold Coast fullback William Zillman on Sunday and the England international said he is confident of avoiding further sanctions this season, but won’t change his style to play.

The 23-year-old is one of the in-form forwards in the NRL, despite his three-year stint with Souths blighted by injury problems.

But he said he never considered altering his abrasive approach on the field.

“I think I will be alright, obviously it’s not ideal to carry-over points,” he said.

“That’s how it is.

“We’ll see what happens over the next few weeks and hopefully I will be playing.”
