Burgess set to leave Sydney Roosters

Joe Burgess’ underwhelming spell in the NRL will end after this season when the winger returns to England.

It was announced on Friday night that Burgess had been granted an early release by the Sydney Roosters to return to English Super League club Wigan.

Burgess joined the Roosters this season on a three-year deal and while he arrived as one of Super League’s most-prolific try-scorers, the 21-year-old has only racked up four games for the tricolours.

He’s spent some time turning out for the Wyong Roos in the NSW Cup.

During his first spell with Wigan, Burgess scored 52 tries in 58 appearances and he’ll take up a three-year deal with the Warriors from 2017.
