Braidon Burns has declared South Sydney teammate Cody Walker the most underrated player in the NRL.
New Rabbitohs coach Wayne Bennett is toying with the prospect of moving Burns to the left centre spot, and skipper Greg Inglis to the right, in what shapes as a massive shake-up for the Bunnies.
Such a move would see Burns play outside Walker, and he described his No.6 as an undervalued part of the Rabbitohs’ success over recent years.
“I believe Cody is the most underrated player in the NRL,” Burns said.
“To play outside him, I’m really looking forward to it if I get that chance.”
Burns and Inglis have been switching sides during pre-season, but the 22-year-old Burns played his cards close to his chest regarding Friday’s round-one NRL clash with Sydney Roosters.
For Bennett to tinker with the South Sydney left edge would be a massive gamble given the dominance of Walker, John Sutton, Inglis and now-departed winger Robert Jennings last year.
In 2018, Souths scored 48 of their 104 tries through the left flank, compared with 27 down the right.
“Cody and Sutton have been playing on that edge for a while now,” Burns said.
“They’re pretty comfortable and to get on the outside of them, they just tell us what to do. Whoever goes on that edge is going to be pretty comfortable.”
