Bulldogs still chasing NRL elite: Hopoate

Will Hopoate insists Canterbury haven’t done enough to be rated genuine NRL premiership contenders.

After an indifferent start to the season, Canterbury have moved into the top four after winning their past three matches.

But despite the impressive mid-season surge, Hopoate says there’s still a gulf between the Bulldogs and teams like Cronulla, Melbourne and North Queensland.

“We’re working towards being the best that we can. Hopefully we can stay in the top four come round 26.”

“(But) Cronulla and Melbourne, they’re quite a bit away from us.”

With David Klemmer and Josh Jackson missing on State of Origin duty, the Bulldogs pack is set to receive a massive boost with Greg Eastwood expected to return from a knee injury against Wests Tigers on Saturday.
